If you’re getting ready to attend college, or if you have kids who are preparing to go off to school, student loans can sometimes feel like an inevitable pain just on the horizon. In fact, over 70% of college graduates leave school with significant student loan debt. That’s 44 million people who owe $1.5 trillion dollars, or about $37,000 per person. Isn’t that insane!!!!??
We know, we know… you don’t want to hear this, yet there is a ton of long-term value to avoiding the party-hard lifestyle. Let’s face it, going out and going hard is expensive. The average drink at bars in major cities in the US are around $12 each, yet can easily be $18 – $22. Perhaps find cheaper alternatives to the high-priced alcohol-saturated party scene. You can do what you’d like once you’re earning six figures as a Tattoo Artist, yet you need to get there first.
Although it’s amazing to recharge over Spring break and take a warm-weather vacation, these trips are luxuries and not necessities. You can still enjoy downtime with friends of course, yet you might want to consider waiting for that Cancun vacation until the time when your tattoo clients are begging you to join them. Yes, we know there is a ton of pressure to “do it for the gram” and get that TikTok video, yet keeping up with the Kardashians is a waste of time and money… just ask Kanye.
Your passion is Art. Ever since you could remember, you’ve dreamed of being an artist. Unfortunately, a degree in art history or even graphic design these days could probably swing you a job at Starbucks. Nothing against Starbucks, yet if you’re going to shell out tens of thousands of dollars on a degree, you probably don’t want to be making lattes and serving cake pops after you graduate.
Possibly, right? The first thing you need to know is that everyone’s tattoo journey is different, and that’s what makes it yours. You already have an edge over many people because you have a creative background.
Whether your passions are painting, sketching, sculpting, or doodling; you have an artistic eye. You don’t need to know how to draw everything perfectly, but an artistic eye will absolutely serve you as a tattoo artist.
Were you discouraged because you’ve heard rumors of what a “traditional tattoo apprenticeship” was like? More than likely, right? Instead of learning how to tattoo, apprentices have been known to perform menial tasks like sweeping floors, cleaning toilets, washing cars, washing windows, painting houses, weeding gardens, and all other kinds of work for no pay. Sounds terrible, doesn’t it?
At Ink Different Tattoo School, we take a totally different approach to teaching you the skills needed to become a successful Professional Tattoo Artist.

Now we realize this won’t be possible for everyone, and many people totally hate the idea, yet not having a dorm room or your own apartment at the beginning of your profession could save you a boatload of money. Even if you are charged a nominal amount of money, it’s better than rent and utilities. However, this does mean that you won’t get the full college experience. You won’t have to avoid your dorm room while your roommate hangs out with their special someone. You can still experience raging frat parties, bad choices, and regrets that go along with your 20’s, yet you don’t have to go into crushing debt for it. You also won’t have to experience the campus cafeteria food. Are you feeling incredibly grateful yet? If you’re willing to forgo those “perks” then living at home might be for you. However, if living at home isn’t an option, consider living with multiple roommates. This can significantly lower your housing costs.
Cars are a huge money guzzler. Gas prices are at an all-time high, vehicle maintenance costs are outrageous and come way too frequently, and who has time to drive around endlessly looking for a parking spot? Two words: Public Transportation. Trains and buses will not only save you money, yet possibly time as well.
You didn’t want to work there, so why pay $6 for something you can make at home for 50 cents? Get those “to-go” coffee cups and take it with you when you leave in the morning. Once you are earning six figures as a tattoo artist, you can not only splurge there, yet you can give everyone your card, and your Instagram account, and get new clients. That is when your indulgence becomes an investment and not just an expense.
Best of luck!
